July 24, 2026—Two more people have been murdered by out-of-control ICE agents in the last few weeks. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed in Houston, Texas, and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero was killed at a traffic stop in Biddeford, Maine. Neither victim was the person ICE was seeking to arrest. Even if they were, killing them in their vehicles at a traffic stop is both criminal and barbaric. And this doesn’t even address the question of why we are hunting people like animals to arrest and deport them.
After the murder of Renée Good in Minneapolis, most Americans were shocked and outraged, but there was also an explosion of posts on social media and slogans on T-shirts to the effect of, “If you disobey, you deserve what you get.” Is this not exactly the same mentality as the crass Secretary of War’s “FAFO” (F*** Around and Find Out)? “Do what we say or die.”
So we have, after the murderous, senile President Biden, an enraged President Trump, an 80-year-old man with a 2-year-old’s outlook on the world, who screams, “Give me your lollipop or I’ll stomp on your sand castle!”—except we are not dealing with lollipops and sand castles. We are dealing with real human beings on a real tiny planet Earth in a vast universe. “Bombing them back to the stone ages” will have consequences for generations to come, or perhaps for no generations to come, if someone decides that the only option is a nuclear weapon. The astronauts who just orbited the moon were profoundly moved by this realization, and their calls to look at all human beings as one species should be heard. Sometimes there is no second chance.
General Douglas MacArthur tried to warn humanity of this after witnessing the horrific destruction of the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He said, “We have had our last chance,” if we don’t find a means of resolving differences outside of war. MacArthur expressed his concern that the spiritual development of man had not caught up to our spectacular achievements of science and technology, and we were therefore in danger of annihilating ourselves.
The American Pope Leo XIV has written a full encyclical on this topic, Magnifica Humanitas. Catholic or not, every person should study this provocative and timely document which takes up the nature of the human species in the era of Artificial Intelligence and the choice between progress or destruction that humanity now faces.
It is a self-evident truth that every human being is created equal, and each of us carries that truth in our soul. Attempts to rule human beings through force will always fail, simply because force violates our nature as human beings. In desperation, tyrants will seek to dictate through terror and force, even to the point of annihilating their victims, whether as individuals as in the ICE killings, or en masse, as in Gaza. Only a desperate despot would threaten to “end” someone else’s civilization, clearly implying the use of a weapon of mass destruction.
The fact that we are marching toward doom, which can and must be avoided, is why I decided to follow in the footsteps of Lyndon LaRouche and declare my candidacy for the U.S. presidency in 2028.
